Background and purpose: C-S-R (Competitive-Stress tolerance-Ruderal strategy theory) theory (4 and 6) has been proposed as a framework for the functional classification of plants and predicting how the structure of plant communities changes along the environmental gradient. It is expected that these strategies will be balanced by the main factors affecting the survival and distribution of vegetation such as environmental factors (weather and edaphic factors, etc.) The characteristics of the soil are This research was carried out in order to investigate the relationship between plant CSR functional strategies and soil characteristics in Gandaman wetland of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province.
Materials and methods: In order to investigate the relationship between vegetation cover and environmental factors, after identifying the flora of the area, the range of plant types was determined by field survey and using Global Positioning System (GPS). Vegetation sampling was done by random-systematic method with nested plots. In this way, along 11 transects, 55 main plots including 275 sub-plots were established. The percentage of plant species and litter cover was recorded in each sub-plot. The characteristics of plant species, leaf area (LA), leaf dry matter (LDMC) and specific leaf area (SLA) for the plant species inside the plots were measured and based on the method of Pierce et al., 2013. , the species strategy was determined. A total of 55 soil samples were taken from a depth of 0-30 cm from the center of each main plot. The properties of nitrogen, organic matter, phosphorus, potassium, sand, clay, silt, acidity, electrical conductivity, and calcium carbonate of the soil were measured. To determine the relationship between plant strategies and soil factors, the generalized aggregate model (GAM) was used in R statistical software. Also, multiple regression model was used to determine the effect of soil characteristics on the spatial dominance of CSR plant strategies.
Results: According to the results of this research, the plants of the region showed a total of 14 types of strategies. The richest plant family in this study was Poaceae with 11 species. According to the data of this study, some species with the highest competitive score also showed the highest LDMC values. Generally, stress-tolerant species show low SLA values due to relatively low growth speed. According to the data of this research, low values of LDMC and high LA, SLA can indicate species with a high score of zinc spoilage. The results show the dominance of strategy C in the region; It is especially in the center of the wetland, and from the center to the edge of the wetland, the R strategy becomes more prominent. The S strategy is not very common in the region. The results of the GAM model showed that among the three strategies C, S and R, the bulldozer strategy had the highest R2 of 0.44. Stress tolerant strategy R2 equal to 0.41 and strategy C showed lower R2 values of 0.39.
Conclusion: The results of this research showed that the functional characteristics and type of selective strategy of plant species can be considered by natural resource managers in evaluating the limitations of ecosystems and their sustainable use. It is also possible to predict how a plant species that has adopted a certain strength will react positively or negatively to changes in stress levels, for example, changes in environmental factors.
