In the past, low attention was paid to the economic values of ecosystem services (e.g. soil and water conservation) in rangeland ecosystems. This study aimed to estimate the economic value of soil and water conservation of the rangeland ecosystem in Sheykh Musa, Babol. Torque, Justin, and PSIAC methods were used to estimate the stored water and eroded soil in this area. The replacement cost method (RCM) was used to value water and soil service in these rangeland ecosystems. The results showed that the value of serving water and soil conservation (from its potential value) in the study area were 9570 million riyals ($ 234969) and 5132 million riyals ($ 126004), respectively. The minimum economic values of water and soil conservation services of rangelands in the study area were 919600 riyals ($ 22.5) and 493145.6 million riyals ($12.1), respectively. Managers and policymakers should pay more attention to the services provided by natural and semi-natural ecosystems such as rangelands to avoid inappropriate land-use changes.
