Abstract:   (3624 Views)
Investigation of the fire on life form and soil seed bank in Semi-Steppe rangelands of the Karsanak region in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province is the scope of the study. A stratified random sampling method was used for vegetation and soil seed bank sampling. Data were taken from 3 sites after one year of the last fire. An area having no fire during the last few years was chosen as the control. Samples from soil seed bank was taken for the fire treatments to be applied. The results showed that Therophytes was the main life form of plant species in the soil seed bank, and Chamaephytes were the main life form of canopy cover. Relative frequency of plants falling in class III of palatability was significantly increased under fire in the soil seed bank. Canopy cover of the species of same palatability class, has significantly reduced by the treatment. Among the investigated treatments, the effect of 80 ° C treatment was positively significant for species of palatability classes of three and two as compared to control treatment. Therefore, it could be concluded that the soil seed bank is not a complete source for rehabilitation of fire affected areas. Results also suggests no significant production increase for the palatable species after the fire.
