Abstract:   (4408 Views)
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of silicon nanoparticles and municipal waste compost on the growth factors of Secale montanum in the greenhouse. This experiment was performed in a completely randomized design with four replications. The experimental factors included municipal waste compost in 3 levels (0, 1, and 2 weight percent) and silicon nanoparticles in 3 concentrations (0, 250, and 500 mg per kg-1). The soil was collected from natural habitats of S.montanum for greenhouse cultivation. After preparing pots, 20 seeds of S.montanum were planted in each pot. Five months after the species establishment, plants were harvested and some morphological characteristics such as stem length, root volume, root area, shoot dry biomass, root dry biomass, and total plant biomass were measured. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey test was used to evaluate the effects of the treatments on growth factors of the species. The results showed that morphological characteristics of the species including root area and root volume of treated with compost 2% were 13.35cm and 6.8cm more than the control treatment, respectively. According to the results, root dry biomass, shoot dry biomass and total dry biomass treated with compost 2% were 6.4, 7 and 13.46 g/pot higher compared to the control pots, respectively. In general, results showed the compost 2% had positive effects on the growth and production characteristics of S. montanum. This compost can be recommended for restoration of degraded rangelands and abandoned dry-farmlands.
