This research was performed to investigate the effects of municipal solid waste compost and biochar amendments on the phytoremediation potential of Bromus tomentellus to absorb Cadmium, Lead, Zinc, Chromium and Nikle in greenhouse condition. Soil samples were collected from lands around the Alborz industrial town in Qazvin province. A completely randomized design with 5 replications was used to compare various treatments including municipal solid waste compost, 1% and 2% biochar and the control treatment. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) in SPSS software and Tukey test were used to analyze the data and compare the mean values. The results showed that the municipal solid waste compost and biochar treatments had significant effects on the Cd, Pb, Zn and Ni concentration of B. tomentellus shoots and roots. We concluded that this species has good potential to absorb Cd, Pb, Zn and Ni from the polluted soils around the Alborz industrial town -Qazvin. Biochar 1% treatment was identified as the best treatments to enhance the phytoremediation potential of B. tomentellus for absorption and extraction of Cadmium, Lead and Zinc. However, Compost 1% and Biochar 2% were the best treatment for absorption and extraction of Nickel. The results of this study and calculated TF, BCF and BAC indices revealed that B. tomentellus can be used effectively for phytoremediation purposes in the contaminated soils with Pb and Cd.
