The use of plant extracts is in progress due to medicinal, anti-microbial and anti-oxidant properties and lack of environmental pollution and side effects of chemical pesticides in controlling microbial agents. In this study, using aqueous and ethanol, extracts of some range plant species was obtained and studied in order to see whether they can control and/or eliminate the deadly disease caused by Phytophthora drechleri in greenhouse Cucumber. Initially extracts of leaf and shoots of Zataria multiflora Boiss., Artemisia aucheri Boiss, and root of Glycyrrhiza glabra L. were taken by two solvents i.e. aqueous and ethanol. The effect of extracts on controlling activity of Phytophthora drechleri was studied by the paper disc as well as mixing extract in culture medium methods. Aqueous extract of Artemisia aucheri Boiss harvested in autumn as well as Glycyrrhiza glabra L. showed 100% controlling capability in 3000 ppm. The lowest effect (6.25%) was observed in aqueous extract of Zataria multiflora Bois in 500 ppm. The highest controlling effect of ethanol extract was related to Artemisia aucheri Boiss harvested in spring and autumn respectively. The highest controlling effect of aqueous extracts on plants indicating that usage of aqueous extract is much better than ethanol extract. According to the results, the studied plant species have capability for controlling the disease and aqueous solvents are advised to be used due to lower cost, ecofriendly method and significant antifungal effects.
