  • cordifolium BOISS is a species of Apiaceae family with seed germination difficulty. To restore the natural habitats of the plant, it is necessary to provide information on the expecting germination time and important factors of the dormancy removal. Different concentration of gibberellic acid, and chilling period and multi temperature were tested on seed dormancy and seedling establishment of Smyrnium cordifolium. This experiment was conducted as factorial in a randomized complete block design. Treatment were included the pre-chilling duration at 7 levels (0, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60 days), gibberellic acid concentration at three levels (0, 5000 and 1000 mg / l), Gibberellic acid usage time at three stages (before, during and after pre-chilling) and temperature at 4 levels (5, 10, 15 and 20 ° C). The results showed that application of gibberellic acid 500 mg/Lit, before chilling at 5 ° C for 60 days, was the most effective treatment on breaking dormancy in Smyrnium cordifolium. Germination percentage (47.9%), germination rate and seed vigor increased significantly in this treatment, compared to control. In relation to growth indices, the results showed that application of gibberellic acid 500 mg/Lit before chilling at 20 ° C was the most effective treatment on seedling growth indices. As results suggest, to improve the seedling establishment of Smyrnium cordifolium, the use of gibberellic acid with a concentration of 500 mg/Lit before chilling for 60 days, which markedly enhanced all of the seedling establishment indices, is recommended.
